Why is my Eastern Redbud tree loosing its leaves in July #880040

Asked August 03, 2024, 2:39 PM EDT

My Eastern Redbud tree began having leaves on 1/4 of the  tree turn yellow to brown and then lose the leaves in July in northern Illinois. Our weather has be good all spring and summer, we’ve had plenty of rainfall and don’t seem to be experiencing a drought. I’m not sure if this may be a disease or something else. If so, how do I treat the tree? Do I need to worry that the tree maybe dying?

Expert Response

Trees will often drop leaves when they are stressed. This could be due to drought, too much water, heat, etc. Another possibility could be damage to the trunk. Inspect the trunk to see if there is any damage or if it is planted too deep.
