Yes I would call it invasive and weed seeds often come with black soil deliveries.

How would you suggest we get rid of it? There are very large segments of our newly seeded lawn covered in these seedlings. They have grown to about 4” tall.

Most of the research based web sites are written for farmers with large fields to treat. Basically, hand pull the weeds, getting as much of the roots as possible and compost them. Or apply a broadleaf herbicide to kill the weed and leave any grass that may be growing. You may have to do this more than once and repeat it next year.
