Hello Michael,
You are correct, your maple tree has a condition called chlorosis. Chlorosis is a yellowing of the leaf, with darker green veins. It is frequently associated with nutrient deficiencies, particularly manganese and/or iron and is usually associated with soil pH. As soil pH increases, the ability of the tree to take up manganese decreases. If you have not done one, a soil analysis would show whether the soil that the tree is planted in is deficient in manganese and how you can correct it. To obtain a kit, go to: https://homesoiltest.msu.edu/get-started.
MSU Extension’s Plant and Pest Diagnostic Lab can analysis which nutrient is missing and how to manage it. Go to: https://www.canr.msu.edu/pestid/ to learn how to submit pictures and samples.
A certified arborist will be able to assess the tree. To find an arborist in your area, go to www.treesaregood.org, the website of the International Society of Arboriculture.
