Red maple tree #879918

Asked August 02, 2024, 2:03 PM EDT

We noticed that one branch on our large red maple tree is dieing. The leaves are wilted. This tree gets some water from our lawn sprinklers so it's not drought. It's a very nice tree that we want to preserve. Thanks

There does not appear to be any issue with other leaves that indicate a larger problem. I suspect that this branch is simply broken. Perhaps it is cracked in some way that is not immediately obvious. You can just prune (of have a tree service) prune this dead branch out.

Sometimes one branch dying like this can indicate a borer or a particular disease starting for certain tree species. However, this species is not troubled by the pest problems that display with a single branch failing.

Take a close look at the branch, it is probably just cracked/broken and can be removed.
