Flowering Crab Tree #879907

Asked August 02, 2024, 1:25 PM EDT

I have a fairly large flowering crab tree that has lost most of its leaves. A friend told me that he heard that the tree has been getting too much rain and that is what has caused the leaves to drop. I’m have been thinking that the tree is dying.

Expert Response

Hi John,

Fungal diseases are thriving in our wet summer. These will not kill your crabapple unless it was already very stressed. Though the trees often drop leaves, a healthy tree will bounce back.

Your tree likely has apple scab or cedar apple rust. This page will help you narrow the cause. Click on "leaves" and follow the links:

Hope this helps!
