Trees growing from roots of sunburst locus. How can i control these in established lawn?

Jack,
You tend to see this issue voiced more commonly once a locust tree has been removed. These 'suckers' pop up all over the place from the roots left in the ground. The only real treatment in that situation is to cut the 'suckers' and treat each cutting point with a herbicide.
In your case, all you can really do is to cut the 'suckers' off as they pop up. This can be done individually or by mowing. You can't really treat the 'suckers' as individual plants and apply herbicides when cut since they are really attached to the tree's root system and you would then be attacking the tree itself.
That might not be the answer you were hoping for, but that is the only true control of the "suckers" without doing damage the tree itself.

The tree was cut down last year. This year with good moisture, they really took off.
