Hosts holes #879861

Asked August 02, 2024, 10:02 AM EDT

My hostas have many, many little holes in them, making them look like doilies. They are not big holes like the ones from slugs. I have sprayed Sevin to no avail.

Good Morning,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

Here is a link from the U of M Extension Yard and Garden website about growing hostas:

The most common hosta problem is slugs: https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/slugs

Did you receive hail during one of the recent thunderstorms? Hail would make many holes in the leaves.

The above link explains how to check and bait slugs if you might have them.

I would inspect the leaves underside, the soil and the plants to look for other insects.

Good Luck!
