Dying Grass #879774

Asked August 01, 2024, 3:04 PM EDT

Hi,

I am having an issue this year for the first time where my front lawn is developing dead patches of grass. They start out as lighter brown areas that quickly spread and seem to kill the grass. This is the first year I have had this issue. The lawn has been aerated, properly fertilized, is on a smart irrigation system. I have also tried to applying Revive with no results. One thing to mention this only seems to be happening in the front yard not the back. Someone told me this could be the results of a fungus caused by rabbits. I am not sure where to turn or what to do. I normally have the green yard in the neighborhood and this year I have the quickly dying yard. Any help would be appreciated. I have attached some pictures.

By far the most common turf problems are related to irrigation.  I recommend you observe your sprinkler system in action (and even measure the amount of water falling in different areas) to determine if that's the problem.  It has been a very hot and dry summer.

Rabbit damage is a possibility, especially if you are seeing rabbits.  Rabbit droppings in the area are also evidence. It is caused by rabbits eating the grass and also by urination in the same area.  Fencing the rabbits out is the most effective.  Motion detector sprinklers also work.  Repellents can work but are expensive.
