Expert Response

Hello,
Redbuds are susceptible to a variety of leaf fungi that, while sometimes unsightly, cause no significant harm to an otherwise healthy tree. These fungi may be more prevalent under wetter than normal conditions such as we've had this spring and summer.

To reduce the spread of the fungus, it is recommended to clean up any fallen leaves, and ensure that leaf litter from the affected tree is removed as much as possible in the fall. This type of infection is typically not severe enough to warrant treatment with a fungicide.

As a side note, I believe the variety you have is called Rising Sun. I found no references to a redbud variety known as Sunrise.
