Aphids on pumpkin flowers, sweet corn and Indian corn #879588

Asked July 31, 2024, 1:04 PM EDT

Noticed yesterday that we have aphids on pumpkin flowers ( have about an acre of pumpkins), sweet corn stalks and Indian Corn stalks. We have not dealt with this before. Will they damage the crops? If so, how do I get rid of them?

Expert Response

Hi Kathy, thanks for the question.

It appears that these corn leaf aphids may have blown in from the south The pumpkins are probably safe since it is not a host plant for these visitors.  Corn, on the other hand, can suffer some problems such as reduced photosynthesis from reduced light due to sooty mold. I hope this helps.
