Wood wasps #879574

Asked July 31, 2024, 11:41 AM EDT

We have wood wasps in a small section of the house. I see the skinny little things flying in and out of holes near our shingles. Is there a natural repellent I have tried soap combinations, but nothing seems to work. I have tried raid and it doesn’t seem to bother them, thank you my email address is <personal data hidden> My cell phone is<personal data hidden>

Expert Response

Hi Lee,

Thank you for reaching out to us at the UNH Extension Infoline!

Please reach out to your local garden center, grain store or larger retail store that carries insect repellents. We are unfortunately not able to recommend any specific product names to clients, but there are a variety of repellents. In regards to any natural repellents that are NOT labeled for treating wood wasps (example: homemade recipes), we also are not able to make any recommendations that are not stated on a EPA regulated label for pesticide use.

I am including a few resources for you below with various management methods and more information on wood wasps:

If your wood wasp issue becomes too dangerous to treat on your own, please reach out to an expert that can assist with removal and/extermination services.

Good luck and have a great day!
