Mature pine that has dropped all of its needles #879401

Asked July 30, 2024, 11:40 AM EDT

What was once a mature, twin trunk tree,>>50 ft tall, had one trunk removed by Eversource 3 summers ago. By the summer of 2023, many needles on the remaining trunk dropped early in the summer, and by mid-July this year, there are no needles at all on the remaining trunk. How long before the remaining trunk is likely to fall down in a wind.

Expert Response

Hi Anita,

Thank you for reaching out to us at the UNH Extension Infoline.

Please contact a certified NH arborist who can visit your property in person to assess the current tree's health and if there are any risk-related concerns. Every tree is different in declining health and it is tricky to be able to have an answer for it's hazard/damage level. This would be best assessed and determined by an arborist. You can look at the NH certified arborist list here: https://www.nharborists.org/nhaa-list-of-certified-arborists/ to find arborists near you!

I hope this information helps! Have a great weekend.

Thank you, Danielle!
