Sapling? #879370

Asked July 30, 2024, 8:51 AM EDT

Hello. This "weed" has been appearing in my lawn over the past few weeks and I'm trying to determine a) what it is, and b) how to rid my lawn of it. The stem is very stiff/hard and pulls out rather easily but because there's roughly 100 of them I'd like to spray something on the saplings, if possible. Is this a bush or tree sapling? I'm attaching twi pics for a visual. Thank you!! Scott Stansbarger

Expert Response

We think the nuisance plants are ash tree seedlings.  Compare here:

Although the seedlings are unwelcome, they are usually short lived, succumbing eventually thanks to normal lawn mowing.
