Expert Response

Hello Heidi,

Thank you for contacting Ask Extension.  You have a question about a wound on a tree which is 7 feet up that was recently planted 4 weeks ago.  It is hard to see the wound details but the wound looks large on an older tree.  It may look like the tree has tried to heal the wound, it is difficult to see.   Wrapping the wound is not recommended.  Watering your newly planted tree is very important even if is listed as a low water plant.

I am including information about Tree Growth and Decay, Wound Dressings, Caring for Storm Damaged Trees plus How to Care for Newly Planted Trees.
