Asked July 29, 2024, 9:42 PM EDT

I live on the East Side and our Acer spicatum maple on the boulevard is dying. I want to replace it with something small, native and wildlife friendly. and that is allowed by the city of Saint Paul Hackberry, chokecherry, birch, red mulberry, another maple?

Expert Response

Thank you for writing.
Go to this page and then to the list of approved St. Paul boulevard trees. https://www.stpaul.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/natural-resources/forestry/street-and-park-tree-master-plan

Additional information is here. https://www.stpaul.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/natural-resources/forestry/boulevard-tree-planting

Take a look at the trees and pick.
If you are talking about planting on your side of the sidewalk, your options are larger because that is your property.

What about a recommendation as to the best pick for wildlife?

Thanks
