daphne adora #879322

Asked July 29, 2024, 6:44 PM EDT

how do I know if my daphne adora is dieing or if needs fertilizer or if its reached its life span . I had it planted in its current location for 8/10 years and i did trim it back last year , but it did bloom nicely this spring and now since june its been looking a bit not so healthy, It now looks TERRIBLE , reddish colored branches and the leaves have gone to green to wilted to now almost i have to say dead. :(

Expert Response

To be sure of my answer, I would like a picture. I can say, however, that Daphne odora is a fussy plant in some ways. Daphnes do not like pruning, and they may experience pronounced dieback if pruned heavily. They also do not tolerate swampy soils nor extreme temperatures. My guess is this one has run its course and can be replaced.
