What kind of rose bush is this? #879320

Asked July 29, 2024, 6:12 PM EDT

This rose bush was here when we moved in. It had very little growth for the past 2 years, and then this year it took off and grew 5-6’ tall, as well as grew additional canes, and even had several deep red blooms for the 1st time. The leaves are dark green and some have red edges. I am wondering if it is a climbing rose, and if I should move it from the fence and plant it some else where it can be supported, as it is flopping over by the fence. So far no one has been able to help identify it, and the internet has been of no help, either.

Good Morning Denice,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

I believe your rose is the China rose: https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/rosa-chinensis/

I used the "Picture This" app to attempt to identify the rose. If you scroll down through the above website, it discusses details of the rose.

Good Luck!
