grass-carrying wasp #879287

Asked July 29, 2024, 3:50 PM EDT

I have grass-carrying wasp nests in my window and screen tracks. I have heard that peppermint oil can be used to deter these wasps from building nests in my window tracks. Is this correct? How and when is the best time to apply it?

Expert Response

There is no research that I am aware of that demonstrates that peppermint oil could act as a repellant against wasps. There is  research showing that peppermint oil can be used to kill some insects and mites. However, as I mentioned, there is no evidence that it is an effective repellant of any insects, including wasps.
