What is the definition of a tree #879247

Asked July 29, 2024, 1:26 PM EDT

Is there a good working definition of a tree for western Oregon, such as dbh minimum, height minimum, etc.

Multnomah County Oregon

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Sarah.  Horticulturally, a tree is described in the following (and applies to all similar plant structures throughout the world):  https://extension.usu.edu/forestry/trees-cities-towns/tree-selection/what-is-a-tree

If you are asking something different, please clarify.  Thanks!

Great, thanks. Just confirming that Utah’s definition is Oregon’s definition. I was curious if it would be different based on the climate variations in western Oregon.

Thanks much,

The term "tree" describes the botany of like structures, so will be the same throughout every state, every region, and every country.
