Unfortunately I cannot conclusively diagnose what is wrong with your tree. There are diseases such as redwood branch canker and rust and funguses but without looking under the microscope it is difficult to be certain. How tall and old is this tree? How widespread is the discoloration? Do you have more than one? Is it spreading?
We have a diagnostic lab where you can bring in a sample and for $20 we will take a look under the microscope. PLEASE make an appointment to make sure someone will be available to look at it when it is fresh.
Although not native, they are beautiful, fast-growing trees that are worth saving. Another suggestion would be to get a licensed arborist to come take a look on your property.
Good luck
