lawn plant for small north-facing, limited sun yard #879187

Asked July 29, 2024, 9:32 AM EDT

I live at ~7900 feet and have a small north-facing fenced yard.  I would like to find a lawn/ground-cover plant that would grow with limited sun (although it still gets hot in the summer).

Good morning!

There are a few groundcovers that could fit in the space you are describing. As long as the area gets some sun and is not in full shade all day. Here is a great factsheet with a couple different suggestions. My favorites for a shady area are vinca - once established it will spread by itself and has a nice purple flower. Ajuga - may be better is the space is smaller as this one will not spread by itself.

The list linked above has suggestions of all different types of grounds covers - please reach out if you have any other questions!

thanks! the periwinkle was something I  had already considered so I'll probably pursue that further.
