Peach tree disease #879175

Asked July 29, 2024, 8:39 AM EDT

Hi my peach tree appears to have gummosis or something. Looking for confirmation and recommendation on treatment if there is any. Peach tree is contender, planted this spring. It’s in a container, not by any other trees. I haven’t seen any bugs other than some small ants on it

Overall, your tree appears to be in good condition.

Gummosis is caused by a fungus, Botryosphaeria dothidea. There is no treatment for this once it appears. All of the moisture we've had contributes to conditions that are good for fungus to infect trees. You will want to prune off the affected tip/s. The Spring (just before or after bloom) is the best time of year to apply a fungicide as a preventative. One with the active ingredients of captan or chlorothalonil would be ok.

More importantly, you should transplant the peach into the ground in the Fall. It's unlikely to survive the winter outdoors in a container.
