Hi Donna, You can reuse canning lids for your pantry storage or craft projects.
The new sealing compound (Ball or Kerr) will not "re-soften" to form to a new jar rim (there can be slight variations in the shape or glass thickness) for another canning project. They may not be reapplied to the same jar rim either as the position can vary around the circumference. The lids may buckle or a jar can break with over-tightened lids or could have a weak vacuum if they do seal which can cause them to become unsealed during storage.
Do not use counterfeit lids for canning (only safe for storage).
