Best way to dry rosehips #879072

Asked July 27, 2024, 10:29 PM EDT

I'd like to dry rosehips from my rosa rugosa roses.  I don't use any pesticides or herbicides on the roses.   I have a dehydrator.    Would it be best to cut them in half?   Remove the seeds or not?   Blanch them?   I'd like to preserve as much vitamin C as possible.   What's the approximate drying time (s) at different temperatures and what's the best temperature to use when dehydrating?     I've seen dried rosehips sold commercially, so it should be possible to do so, but my copy of Rodale's Stocking Up doesn't provide any instructions.

Thanks for the question!
I would recommend rinsing and drying, cutting in half, and removing the seeds prior to drying. This will speed up the drying process. I don't have a recommended temperature for the dehydrator, but lower temperature would help to retain as much of the natural vitamin and other components as possible. Dry until brittle.
