Crape Myrtle Bark #879062

The bark on my Crape Myrtle tree is peeling a lot. I know this is natural for the tree, but it is peeling much more than previous years. Does it mean that the tree is in stress? Should I water it more?

How does the leafy canopy look? If that looks fine, it is just more natural bark shedding. Given the very high temperatures and  lack of rain/drought conditions in many parts of central Maryland, a nice, slow, long drink will be appreciated by many plants, especially young trees- but all are stressed right now.
