Spotted Knapweed #879012

Asked July 27, 2024, 1:58 PM EDT

I am quite alarmed by the increase of knapweed on my property. What is the best way to get rid of it? Are goats effective? Are there any programs available to homeowners to share in the expense of eradication? Thank You! Pam Monteiro

Expert Response

Spotted knotweed is a prohibited noxious weed in Minnesota. Reporting to the state is important. Cultural control, digging out, is one method of removal. Animals will not eat knapweed. The state does have a biological control (insects) program for property owners. I have placed links below with additional information about spotted knapweed. The last link contains information about the state biological control program.
