Unidentified Shield Bug Found #878961

Asked July 26, 2024, 6:55 PM EDT

Hello! I found this bug on my sunflowers in NE Bend. I've never seen a stink bug or shield bug this color - curious if you know anything about this one and if it's invasive or harmful to the area.

Expert Response

Hi Kellie,

Thanks for the photos. I believe this is a stink bug in the genus Chlorochroa.   Here is a link to this genus on Bugguide. Of note,  it mentions that they feed on a variety of herbaceous plants.   https://bugguide.net/node/view/6978

Here is also a link to a few stink bugs in Oregon.  Of note, the brown marmorated stink bug is an established pest here in Oregon;  I am not aware of Chlorochroa being a significant pest.
