Spotted immature Lanternfly #878845

Asked July 26, 2024, 9:28 AM EDT

I spotted my first immature lanternfly just the other morning. I did not get a picture but I will the next time I see one. I am sure there will be more to come.

Thanks for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, spotted lanternflies are becoming widespread now in most of Maryland. If you are able to get a photo of one in the future, you can submit the photo to the Maryland Department of Agriculture using this form on their website. This data helps them with tracking the population.

Spotted lanternflies are mainly a nuisance pest in home gardens. They have not been found causing any major damage to garden plants (except for grapes). Our page about spotted lanternflies in home gardens has more information about them, including options for management without the use of pesticides.
