Whats wrong with my lilac buses #878773

Asked July 25, 2024, 4:05 PM EDT

This sprig I cut my over grown lilacs back to the ground by 1/3. Leaves are now wilting and the color is two toned )light and dark green). All the leaves died on one of the bushes so I cut all the branches to within a couple feet from the ground. The leaves on the new growth from the previously cut branches seem ok for now. What should I do?

Expert Response

You should just let the shrub be.  It is struggling to recover from such a severe pruning.  Clean up all leaves this fall and dispose of them.  That way, any fungus that happens to be around will not carry over to next spring.
