Dawn redwood weird brown powdery bark loss on trunk #878714

Hello, we've a roughly 4YO Dawn redwood in Seven Hills, OH. Not sure whether began with squirrels peeling bark or not, but now that we're officially in "abnormally dry to moderate drought" in this part of Ohio, am noticing TRUNK of tree losing bark and what's left is powdery brown substance.

I found this article which addresses some of-the pathogens that could be causing the redwood’ symptoms.

If none of these seem to fit get back to me and I will try to find additional information. Another gambit would be for you to go online adding “edu” or “extension” to your word search for reliable university based resources.
