Big magnolia tree with lots of scales #878626

Asked July 24, 2024, 4:39 PM EDT

Hello, I have a magnolia tree that developed white scales over 1/2 of the tree. What do you recommend to get rid of them. Or is it hopeless and will eventually kill the tree I do not want to spend too much money. Thank you PS. I also have a large bee hive in the tree Best Kristi

What you refer to is probably scale, an insect.  I will give you a link but be aware that the only way to deal with it is to treat your tree with a product that is taken up throughout the entire tree.  Your bees will also be affected is they partake of your blooms.  With such a large infestation, it may be better to take your tree down this fall.  Open this link and then the one on Magnolia Scale.  https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/scale-insects
