Growing clematis from seed #878579

Asked July 24, 2024, 1:06 PM EDT

Would you have instructions on how to grow clematis from seed? Thank you, Duane Clark, Florence, Oregon

Lane County Oregon

Expert Response

Gather and sow seeds fresh in autumn. They need a period of cold stratification to ensure even germinations in spring. Sow the seeds thinly in a prepared pan of free-draining soil mix. Cover with a thin layer soil mix and top with grit. The seedlings will take 2-3 years to flower as a rule.
