Lilac bush leaves turning brown #878554

Asked July 24, 2024, 11:27 AM EDT

I have enclosed pictures of the lilac bushes in my yard with widespread leaf browning. The bushes were fine this spring. The blooms were fragrant and beautiful but now the bushes look like they are dying.

Expert Response

Good Morning Kate,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

The lilac disease is bacterial leaf spot blight. Please click on the following link:

This link discusses the disease and management. With the cool and wet spring we had, this has affected many lilac bushes. The bushes are not dying.

Good Luck!
