Hello
Thank you for using Michigan State University Extension Ask Extension with your Raingarden/wet basement question. The short answer is no.
Installing a rain garden that directs water away from your foundation will give better results. Installing rain gutters that direct the water flow into a raingarden gives better results. Altering the slope of your yard so that water is directed away from your house helps too. Raingardens should be located at least 10' feet away from your home foundation.
Wet basements happen for a variety of reasons.
cracks in the foor or walls of your
the sill plate is below grade
incorrect slope direction around the house
lack of waterproofing on the outside of basement walls
high water tables
lack of rain gutters
rain gutters not directing water away from foundation
trees and shrubs too close to the foundation creating water pathways
sidewalks and driveways sloped toward insead fo away from the foundation.
lack of air flow in the basement allowing condensation to form on walls
Here is some more information about wet basements and what to do about it
Repair/seal cracks in walls and floor
install or fix your gutters and draining
regrade around your home
Check to make sure that there are no gardens or soil right up to the top of the foundation. (there should be at least 6" or more inches of exposed foundation all the way around yoru house. If you have raised planters against your house - remove them they are trapping water to seep in later.
