Vinca is toxic to dogs and is a great ground cover if you do not have pets or your pets do not eat your plants!

Here is a link to a great factsheet to some other options for ground covers. They have a few shade options for ground cover that could be a replacement for vinca but they are woody.

If you send over some information on your space and a photo or two. I can help you find some plants that could be a good alternative if that is what you are looking for!

Thanks so much,
Rachel

Thank you for your reply.  We decided to plant Blue star creeper instead.  It  was available in small pots which were easier to plant in our space.  Also, it seemed  to be less toxic to animals.
