Tree disease #878416

Asked July 23, 2024, 12:27 PM EDT

A portion of this tree broke off in a recent storm, revealing this black substance inside. We’re wondering if this will affect the health of the tree and if we should be concerned about decay or further damage to the tree.

Expert Response

Hi Christi,
I think that you should have this tree assessed by a professional arborist.  It looks like that one side is a hazard.  I found this link, and I don't know if this is your problem, but it looks like it might be.  The Arborist can tell you for sure:  https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/armillaria-root-rot
I hope you can save the tree.
