Worm damage #878404

Asked July 23, 2024, 11:36 AM EDT

Hello, I have several plants throughout my garden that are being eaten by something but I can’t figure out what it is. Any ideas? I don’t see anything underneath the leaves or stems when I look during the day. Do you recommend how I can control this pest?

Expert Response

Good Evening Kelly,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

From viewing your photos, I believe this is a disease and not a pest. With the wet weather we've had this spring, the leaves took a beating. Leaf spot diseases thrive in cool and wet weather on plants.

Please click on the following link from the U of M Extension Yard and Garden website about leaf spot diseases: https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/leaf-spot-diseases-trees-and-shrubs

Here is another link about four lined plant bug that may cause similar problems: https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/four-lined-plant-bugs

Good Luck!
