Orange feathers on Buckeye leaves #878398

Asked July 23, 2024, 11:16 AM EDT

We've lived here over 40 years with this Buckeye tree. This year, in the last couple weeks, we are seeing leaf drop with these orange feathers on the leaves, which otherwise appear healthy. Photo attached. Should we be concerned?

Expert Response

It’s hard to diagnose a problem with only a leaf to look at. This problem could be caused by the weather. It’s been a crazy summer, a lot of rain with periods of dry spells and a lot of temperature changes. Some trees shed a few leaves and that would be normal. I think I would contact an arborist to come out and look at your tree. They are tree specialists and they are able to come out and personally look at your tree and make a diagnosis. Thanks for your question.
