Crab apple tree #878396

Asked July 23, 2024, 11:07 AM EDT

Hi, my crab apples flowered this spring but they're looking really unhealthy now. Including a picture. Any idea what is going wrong and how to treat it? I have four trees. The ones in the backyard are healthy but both my front yard trees look like the picture all over.

Thank you for reaching out to ask2.extension.

If you wil notice around you, most of the crab trees look really tough.  It has to do with the really wet weather.   This is a fungus that is affecting a lot of trees and other plants.

You could try a fungicide if you want, but I don’t think it will do much.  This shouldn’t kill the trees.  Hopefully they will pull out next year.

If you decide to try the fungicide, be sure to follow label instructions.  You can search brown spot to get the names of fungicides to treat this fungus.  As a volunteer I can’t suggest chemicals.
