Insect Exclusion Netting #878302

Asked July 22, 2024, 3:40 PM EDT

Hello, I am planning to install a high tunnel to grow peach trees in the coming weeks, and I'd like to use insect exclusion netting on the sides to protect the trees/fruit while the curtains are rolled up. I've read a few places that the size needed depends on pests in the area, so I was hoping you could advise me on which mesh size(s) are best in MN? Thank you!

Expert Response

Good Morning Zach,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

Please click on the following link about growing stone fruits in MN: https://extension.umn.edu/fruit/growing-stone-fruits-home-garden#insects-2836760

If you scroll down to insects, it discusses the SWD (spotted wing drosophia). This is a tiny fruit fly.

Good Luck!
