Lilac Bushes browning and curling leaves #878214
Asked July 22, 2024, 10:15 AM EDT
In a very short period of time (less than a week), 3 of my 5 lilac bushes between my yard and the neighbors on the west side have completely changed. Leaves over 80%, largely the lower 2/3 have browned, and look to be falling off. I have read it may be blight, and to cut off the affected branches, if that is the case, i may have to cut to the ground they are so affected. Is there anything else that this could be? I am assuming they are done for the season, and want to make sure I prevent them from having to be removed. Thank you

This has been a great season for fungus.
If the blight is that bad, your only option will be to cut them down. Be sure to total remove infected branches and all leaves from the area. They will not bloom next year. Keep an eye on them next spring. A copper fungicidal spray will battle blight, but it needs to be sprayed in a timely fashion.
Maybe do some reading up on treatment to be ready for spring.
