Katydid - Pest or ignore? #878186

Asked July 21, 2024, 10:55 PM EDT

I think I have identified this bug as a katydid. It’s the second time I have seen this bug in my garden. Was just crawling up my cucumber trellis. Found today, 7/21/24 at 7:30pm.

Hi Brianne and thanks for your great picture of... you guessed it... a Katydid! Since they don't tend to eat much before they move on to a new leaf, they are not considered harmful and are really fun to watch. If you are raising citrus or plums they may cause a bite out of the fruit, but again, they move on, so enjoy the unusual insect and I'll attach the IPM site if you want to read more.
