I purchased this (see pic) Japanese (Bloodgood) Maple tree. It was already in the pot. Can you tell me what is this on the leaves or what is wrong with it?

At first glance, it appears to be environmental stress. Most likely due to our extreme heat. It's not uncommon to see Japanese maples exhibiting these signs. However, to prevent damage to the tree, I'd like to see additional pictures to ensure the container/pot the plant is in and the overall size of the tree.
It may be time to either place it in a larger container, plant it in the ground, or increase watering. Another tip, when you water, make sure you are only watering the roots. Leaves should not be getting wet if at all possible.
