When do I have to seed cold weather crops in the end of summer. When can I transplant them outside.

Boulder County Colorado

Expert Response

I have a small vegetables garden at home. I like to tray to seed my plants for the fall, bok choy, cilantro. I start always my plants in the spring inside. I like to do that now as well for the fall season. Is that possible with the hot temp inside and out.

Hi Remke,
Thank you for your questions. Yes, you can start your cool season plants indoors. Make sure you pay attention to temperature of soil, light requirements and air circulation during hot temperatures. I cool basement with a grow light is good or something equivalent to this space.

Cool season vegetable sowing depends mainly on how many days to harvest or days to maturity. Always check your plant package for recommendations and count days and weeks on your calendar back from the average frost date of Mid-October.
