What insect is this and what do I use to kill them?

Howard County Maryland

Expert Response

This is a Spotted Lanternfly nymph. Spotted lanternflies are invasive insects which are gradually spreading to our area.  Please don't spray pesticides to try and kill them.  You will be harming beneficial insects as well.  The best thing to do is sweep them off your plants into buckets of soapy water.  Or just blast them with a strong spray for your hose.
