Webs on balsam tree #878130

Asked July 21, 2024, 2:47 PM EDT

I think this is spider mites? What can I use to get rid of these. I purchased an "organic" spray on line but am on my 3rd application and they're back!

Expert Response

Hi Janice -
I believe that your tree is a dwarf Alberta spruce, am I right?
It's best to understand the life cycle of the spider mite that is attacking your tree.  That way, you can get ahead of your problem by eliminating them before they get to this stage next year.  I am including two links for you.  I recommend that you spray the trees with hard jets of water now to get rid of those webs, which act as protection for the mites and their families.  Then, follow the suggestions in the links as to when to spray and with what.  Oils are good, but they have no long-lasting effect.

Good luck!
