I have a beautiful magnolia tree that all of a sudden started to show limbs turned brown. Within the last week I noticed what I thought were bee’s but I think it’s actually flies. In fact there is a humming noise. Finally taking a closer look for a nest I noticed white pods on branches about 3/4 up the tree. I want to save the tree if possible. Attached are photos of the tree. Looking for an opinion if the tree can be saved and if so can an arborist to treat the tree be recommended

Hello Carol,
Thank you for your question.
It looks as if your tree is infested with magnolia tree scale, which is apparently quite common in our part of the country.
Here is a website that provides a photo and description of the scale.
While there are various natural enemies of the scale, you may want to consult with the OSU Extension Office in Lorain County, as I am not able to advise you on the use of insecticides. They should be able to assist you.

I hope your lovely tree continues to provide you enjoyment for many years to come.
