Fertilizer #878059

Asked July 20, 2024, 6:33 PM EDT

Hi. I just fertilized my flower gardens and flowering shrubs with a 4-4-4 granular product. Now I'm reading this is not the best ratio for Colorado soils. Will you please advise on the best ratio? Also, if I used the wrong fertilizer, can I immediately use the correct one? Finally, how ofter should I fertilize my flowers (annuals and perennials)? Thank you in advance.

Expert Response

The fertilizer you have used on your flowering plants and shrubs will not harm your plants, it is still beneficial.  A good overall general purpose fertilizer has a composition of 5-10-5 (5% Nitrogen; 10% Phosphorous; 5% Potassium) You will find this ratio on the package directions of any fertilizer product you buy.  You can apply a general purpose fertilizer, either liquid or granular, every 7-14 days according to package directions throughout the growing season.
