Expert Response
Thanks for reaching out with this question! Blue jays are not a major predator of honey bee colonies in Michigan. Healthy honey bee colonies usually have tens of thousands of adult bees in the summer, and it's normal for critters and other insects to feed on a relatively small number of honey bees outside of the hive. Furthermore, a queen honey bee can lay over a thousand of eggs per day in the summer, which can help replace honey bees lost outside of the hive.
