Healthy honey bee colonies usually have tens of thousands of adult bees in the summer, and it's normal for critters and other insects to feed on a relatively small number of honey bees outside of the hive. Furthermore, a queen honey bee can lay over a thousand of eggs per day in the summer, which can help replace honey bees lost outside of the hive.
