Asked July 20, 2024, 1:45 PM EDT

We have a couple cherry plum trees that look like they have a disease or fungus. From research it looks to be brown rot but unsure. Also trying to figure out what steps to take.

Hello Adam,

Thank you for reaching out to Ask Extension with your question.

Can you please answer a few questions about your trees so that we can better help you figure out what it going on? We need some background information.

  1. When did you first notice this issue?
  2. How old are your trees?
  3. How do these trees get watered, how often and for how long?
  4. Have any pesticides been used in the vicinity of your trees, including weed and feed lawn treatmments? If so, please list what has been used.
  5. Have the trees been fertilized in the past year?
  6. Are you only seeing damage of the branches and leaves, or is there any damage on the trunk? (Look for any small holes in hte trunk, missing bark, areas of sap ooze, etc.)

Would it be possible to send more pics showing:

  1. The tree trunks where they meet the ground.
  2. Pictures of the entire trees, showing their location in the yard and surrounding structures.

Thank you,

Dawn
